I have found that when the busk at the front is flat (often called an Elizabethan corset), it will crush my breasts, meaning that if you have natural breasts on the large side, it will make you look like your breasts are pouring down the sides. I call it the unitit, as it makes me look like I have one breast equally distributed around my whole torso, yuk..

Size

Corsets are designed to be ordered 2-4 inches under your natural waist circumference. But if you want to do tight lacing, then you can drop this to a 6 inches.

The best corset being handmaid to your own measurements, it is preferable you have it custom made. It is more expensive of course but apparently well worth it if you can afford it. I’m having my first hand made corset done as I am writing this, I’ll give you some news about that as soon as I get it J

I’ve been told to use the following tricks for taking your measurements if you are ordering online and cannot find a professional to measure you (which would be preferable, but who has the time!):

        * Do it when you get out of bed. While you sleep your spine gets uncompressed, so your natural height is after you wake up, not at the end of the day, when you’ll have lost more or less of an inch
        * Make sure you don’t eat a big meal right before going to bed, or if you can’t measure as you get up, don’t eat too much a couple of hours previous to the measurement. It will cause you to be a little bloated
        * Do not reduce your measurements on purpose at the waist just to have a thinner waist line, that will only put strain on your kidneys, instead tell the corset maker you want your corset to drop your waste down to x amounts of inches.

If you want to wear a corset because you want to look thinner, be aware that buying a corset that is too constraining might make your waist look smaller, but it will also push fat above and bellow the corset, creating a not so appealing bulge. Keep that in mind before you buy over the internet and cannot try it on before hand. Also buying a larger corset means you might be able to have it altered afterwards, but if it’s too small, it’s too bad.
